Very good news from Germany : Daimler announced new version of electric A-Class
Daimler announced the first presentation of the new electric A-Class at the Detroit Motor Show in Jan. 2009 and this could be the begining of a final breakthrough of Battery Electric Autos worldwide !!!
They want to start with a small series production in Germany in 2010.
Nothing is said about the price of the new electric A-Class and how many cars will be produced, but a mass produced electric A-Class could certainly be sold or leased for the same price like "usual" models of the A-Class with internal combustion engine, burning gasoline, diesel, natural gas or vegetable oil.
This has been proved already with the first version of the electric A-Class, the 1997
"ZEBRA-A-Class", powered by the
"ZEBRA-Battery", and with an average range of 200 km (125 miles), built for California because of the
ZEVM.
Performance and Features of the 1997 ZEBRA-A-Class
average range : 200 km (125 miles)
200 km was the average range of the 1997 version, powered by a 1997 "ZEBRA Z12"-Battery, with a 2008 "ZEBRA Z12" or a Li-Ion-Battery, which Daimler wants to use for the new version of the electric A-Class, the range of the 1997 A-Class would be more than 250 km.
acceleration 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) : 16,5 s
max. speed : 130 km/h (80 mph) - electronically limited for California
pay load : 350 kg (772 lbs)
4 seats
air conditioning (electric heat pump)
charging time for full charge (250 km) : 6 - 8 h
fast charging in 1h possible
perfect for "Better Place" battery switching stations, as battery is mounted in floor
